Candice Michael

Candice L. (Smith) Michael was born and raised in Miami, Florida. Growing up, she witnessed firsthand the limitations that families faced due to their socio-economic status, and she endeavored to become an advocate for others. She attended William H. Turner Technical Arts High School, and was a part of the Public Service-Criminal Justice academy. As a student, she served as the Secretary of the Student Government Association, was enrolled in Dual Enrollment Program at Miami-Dade College, was crowned as Ms. Sophomore of her class, and was involved in many other student-based activities. She graduated in 2006 in the top 20% of her class, having earned over 20 college credits through the Dual Enrollment Program.

Candice continued her education at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. In 2009, Candice graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology with honors, and later earned her Juris Doctor from Howard University School of Law in 2014. As a law student, she interned at numerous organizations throughout the District of Columbia, and was afforded the opportunity to study abroad at the University of Western Cape in Cape Town, South Africa.

Immediately following law school, Candice was admitted to practice law in the State of Florida in 2014.

She then served as a Judicial Law Clerk in the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands, in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, and later worked as a Staff Attorney for Florida Rural Legal Services, Inc. and Legal Services of Greater Miami, Inc. Candice is now the Founder and President of her own family law practice, The Michael Law Firm. P.A., located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Her dedication to advocacy remains a focus of her practice as her mission is to help her clients protect their families and preserve their legacies.

Candice is a member of The Florida Bar Family Law Section, the Gwen S. Cherry Black Woman Lawyer’s Association, and serves on the Executive Board of the Turner Tech Alumni Association. She is the past Secretary of the Lee County Bar Association’s Young Lawyer’s Division.

During her personal time, Candice enjoys traveling, reading, cooking, attending art events, spending time with her family, and creating memories her beautiful daughter, Skylah.
